Articles and Simple Future Review

Last Friday, December 4th's ESL Lifeskills 1 class was review. We practiced key verbs, (to be, to have, to go, etc.), in the present and past tense, as well as the simple future construction, "going to". We also reviewed pronouns (personal and possesive), as well as articles (definite and indefinite). With the indefinite article, we use either "a" (when a noun starts with a consonant), or "an" ( when a noun starts with a vowel). Here is an outline of some of what we went over...

Simple Future Tense: "going to"

  • [am/is/are + going to + verb]
  •   Planned Events

    • I am going to Mexico in a few days.
    • We are not going to work next week.
    • They are going to go to the university next year.
  • Predictions (based on facts)
    • There is going to be an accident on that dangerous road.
    • The test next week is going to be really hard.
    • Someone is going to win the lottery.
  • Intentions
    • I am going to be a rich person someday.
    • We are going to pass the test.
    • They are going to follow the directions..
